Clock change

When the clocks change in spring and we lose an hour, it can feel like a bit of a challenge. For parents, especially those feeling overwhelmed, this time adjustment can be an opportunity to reassess and optimise routines, once you catch up with the lack of sleep! Here are a few tips to help you make the most of it:
🌞 Prioritise some time for yourself
As parents, it’s easy to overlook taking some time for yourself, whatever that might look like for you to feel in a better place. Despite losing this hour when the clocks change, make sure to continue to focus on yourself and recharge your batteries. A well-rested and happy parent is better equipped to handle the chaos of family life.
🌞 Get Organised
Even with a tighter schedule, a bit of organisation can make a big difference. Is there time to declutter a small area, prepare the next day’s meals, or sort through your kids' clothes. A little bit of organisation can reduce stress and make the upcoming days smoother.
🌞 Encourage Creativity
Encourage your children to engage in creative activities. This can be a great time for arts and crafts, building with LEGO, ideally independently so you can grab a bit of time too! It keeps them occupied and encourages creativity, even if time is limited.
🌞 Plan a Family Activity
Continue to create time to bond with your family. Plan a simple activity that everyone can enjoy, like a short walk, a quick game, or cooking a meal together. These moments can help strengthen family bonds and provide a break from routine. It’s about quality time, not how long you spend.
🌞 Relax and Unwind
Sometimes, the best use of your time is to do nothing and relax. Watch a movie together, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, or just sit and talk. Unwinding can help reduce stress levels and create a more relaxed atmosphere at home. Let go of the guilt of doing ‘nothing’—sometimes, nothing is everything.
When the clocks change and you lose an hour, it’s an opportunity to reset. Whether it’s for you, the family, getting organised, or relaxing, use this chance to bring a little calm and joy into your life. Easier said than done at times, I know 💜
